RANDY EDWARDS was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia and attended the University of Alabama on an athletic scholarship where he played football for legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant while earning a B.S. in Finance in 1984. After college, Randy played professional football for the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL from 1984 to 1988. He then returned to the University of Alabama to earn a Master’s in Finance and a Juris Doctorate in 1992. We spoke with Randy to learn more:
Q: Why did you decide to become a lawyer?
A: When I left pro football in 1988, I either had to get a job or go to school. So I went back to law school and managed to put off getting a real job until I was over 31 years old.
Q: What are your major practice areas?
A: Complex business litigation (including franchising, construction, real estate, banking, insurance, fraud, trade secrets, restrictive covenants, unfair competition), catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death. I seem to have a competitive streak about me, and I love the challenge of trying cases for my clients.
Q: What values guide you in your practice of law?
A: I firmly believe that hard work, dedication, passion, and teamwork result in success.
Q: Tell me about an influential person in your life and what he or she has meant to you.
A: Coach Bryant had a tremendous influence on my life and taught me the core values which guide my approach to the practice of law. He always told us, “If you believe in yourself, and have dedication and pride, and never quit, you’ll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards.”
Randy is licensed to practice law in Georgia and Alabama and has tried cases to jury verdicts in state and federal courts throughout the southeast. He primarily represents small businesses and individuals in high stakes litigation against big corporations, insurance companies and the government. He has avoided numerous trials by obtaining favorable rulings from trial courts early in litigation.
Prior to forming Cochran & Edwards, Randy was a partner at Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP, a large, multi-national law firm headquartered in Atlanta.
