The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration breaks out truck accident reports into “light” trucks and “large” trucks. In 2008, fatal truck accident reports in Georgia showed 252 pickup truck accidents, 181 utility vehicle accidents, 51 van accidents, and 32 large truck accidents.* Because many truck accidents also involve cars, and trucks tend to be larger and significantly heavier than cars or motorcycles, injuries can be more severe.
While the total number of tractor trailer (or semi-truck) accidents is not that high, these accidents tend to get lots of press. When there is a tractor trailer involved, there are normally traffic tie-ups and extent of damage caused can be significant. In addition, if other vehicles are involved, there are frequently serious injuries or fatalities.
